Your Local Oakland Dentists Say YES!
Stress is almost impossible to avoid, and we all feel it’s pressure form time to time. Some stress is to be expected (and totally normal!) however, when it becomes excessive is when other problems can arise – and many of us unintentionally take it out on our teeth.
Teeth Grinding – Bruxism
Stress can lead to teeth grinding – which often occurs while we are sleeping at night. This can lead to tooth damage and can cause problems with your TMJ (jaw joint). Some people may even develop TMD, tempromandibular disorder which can lead to more server problems that may require surgery.
Canker Sores
Canker sores can be a sign of stress. While harmless, they are painful and can cause disruption to your normal routine. Rinsing the mouth with antiseptic mouth wash, or warm salt water will help to reduce inflammation.
Gum Disease
Gum disease effects more than just your mouth. In fact, many other serious health problems are strongly correlated to poor gum health. Gun disease can have long term negative affects on the immune system and lead to heart disease. If you think you have gum disease please contact our Oakland office asap! We will get you in to see one of our Endodontists!
Over All Health Starts In The Mouth – So Take Care!
